Two La. projects get econoimic development grants Two La. projects get econoimic development grants Advocate staff report Oct. 05, 2013 Comments Two economic development projects in Louisiana are receiving grants from the U.S. Commerce Department’s Economic Development Administration as part of $21.1 million in funding going to 11 states. The grants in Louisiana are: $1.2 million to the Avoyelles Parish Port Commission of Simmesport to make water infrastructure improvements needed to serve the Avoyelles port and industrial park as a stopping point for barge traffic. The project is expected to help create 65 jobs, according to estimates. $500,000 to the LaSalle Parish Police Jury in Jena to reconstruct Pinehill Road to open access to a two-mile industrial corridor that will help LaSalle Parish and the town of Jena attract private investment, including companies involved in the timber and energy sectors.
