Aug 31, 2013 16:40 Globalstar to test Wi-Fi at UNO Globalstar to test Wi-Fi at UNO Advocate business staff report Aug. 31, 2013 Comments Globalstar, the Covington-based satellite phone company that has petitioned the Federal Communications Commission to allow it to use its airwave spectrum license for mobile broadband Internet, plans to test its Wi-Fi service at the University of New Orleans Thursday. The test will be part of the “Technolagy Festival,” which is being held at UNO. Globalstar has said it can meet the rapidly growing demand for Wi-Fi by tapping the spectrum set aside for the company in area where satellite phone service isn’t needed — such as major U.S. cities and airports. The company said its service could immediately increase Wi-Fi capacity in the U.S. by one-third. The test is set for noon, just outside the UNO math department.
