This is the 10th year TRSL has received the award. For the 22nd consecutive year, the Government Finance Officers Association presented TRSL with the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its 2012 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report and its 11th Popular Annual Financial Report. The awards recognize organizations for their administration and financial reporting. Douglas Secrest, an accounting alumnus of the E.J. Ourso College and the LSU Center for Internal Auditing program and a native of Baton Rouge, was named by the Institute of Internal Auditors Research Foundation as the 2013 Esther R. Sawyer Research Award winner. The award is presented to individuals who are entering or who are enrolled in a graduate program in internal auditing or business at an IIA-endorsed internal audit program and have written a manuscript on a specified topic related to modern internal auditing. Secrest, who earned his degree in May, was also a University Medalist and one of just two E. J. Ourso College graduates to be certified as a Distinguished Communicator from the Communication across the Curriculum program. The Governmental Research Association presented the Public Affairs Research Council of Louisiana with its top award in the Most Effective Education category for PAR’s Sunshine Headquarters portal. The award recognizes research and educational activities that are designed to educate the public and public officials on governmental matters. The goal of the Sunshine Headquarters, launched in March, is to educate citizens on the Open Meetings Law, Public Records Law and Campaign Finance Law in Louisiana. Anne Kuhlmann Taylor has been selected as an American Chemical Society Fellow. ACS Fellows are nominated by their peers and selected for their outstanding achievements in and contributions to the sciences/profession and for providing excellent volunteer service to the ACS community.
