People in Business for June 14

Matthew Bethel has been named research director for the Louisiana Sea Grant College Program at LSU. Bethel was a research project manager and postdoctoral scientist at the Pontchartrain Institute for Environmental Sciences, University of New Orleans.

Miles B. Williams, president and co-owner of Sigma Consulting Group Inc. in Baton Rouge, has been elected chairman of the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying board.

Other board members elected to the executive committee are James E. Bowie, of Lafayette, vice chairman; M. Ernest Gammon, of Baton Rouge, treasurer; and Theodore H. Thompson, of Sulphur, secretary.

Gary Anderson, a senior business coach for the Urban Entrepreneur Partnership, has been elected president of the Downtown Business Association in Baton Rouge.

Other officers and board members are Lauralyn Maranto, vice president of administration and human resources at Visit Baton Rouge, vice president; Josh Anderson, sales manager of the Baton Rouge River Center, treasurer; Robert Hebert, director of design and marketing at MayerIT, secretary; and Gabriel Vicknair, assistant executive director of the Downtown Development District.
