Topcor considering building new offices

Topcor Companies, a Baton Rouge industrial contractor, has purchased 9.75 acres along Highland Road, near the Airline Highway intersection, and is considering building a new office there.

The company bought the land in two transactions that were filed with the East Baton Rouge Parish Clerk of Court’s Office on Friday.

Topcor paid about $1.55 million for the land. The company bought 5.75 acres at 20269 Highland Road from Hercules Transport for $1.15 million and 4 acres at 20249 Highland Road from Vaults and More Vaults for $399,000.

Johnny Bradberry, Topcor Companies’ chief operating officer, said Hercules Transport still has a lease at 20269 Highland for another year. That will give the company time to evaluate and decide if it wants to build a new office.

“We’ll move one way or another in a year,” Bradberry said.

Topcor Companies has had its headquarters at 12025 Industriplex Blvd. for more than 20 years, Bradberry said. Four of the company’s divisions are based out of the space. But it has sister companies with offices in Prairieville and Gonzales.

Topcor Companies offers a range of services, including concrete and steel structural restoration; civil, structural and mechanical construction; fireproofing and insulation; and installing rubber linings.

The company has divisions in Sulphur; Sarasota, Fla.; Augusta, Ga.; and Dilley, Texas.

Topcor Companies has about 35 employees at its Industriplex office.

If a new office is built on Highland, Bradberry said, the Prairieville and Gonzales operations would be relocated. That would put between 50 to 75 people working out of the office.
