BATON ROUGE AREA
Lawrence E. Wilkinson, an analytical chemist at ExxonMobil Refining & Supply Co.’s Baton Rouge Refinery Quality Assurance Laboratory, has received the Charles E. Coates Memorial Award for 2013.
The award is jointly sponsored by the Baton Rouge sections of the American Chemical Society and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. Wilkinson was honored for his professional achievements as a chemist and a high school teacher, and for his many service and outreach activities.
The Baton Rouge Bar Foundation’s 2012 Belly Up with the Bar event is being presented the Louisiana State Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Section Service to the Public Award.
Belly Up is an annual cook-off contest that raises funds for the foundation’s youth education projects and sponsored by the Young Lawyers Section of the Baton Rouge Bar Association.
Donna Buuck is the staff liaison to the Belly Up with the Bar committee; Brandon Decuir served as the chair for the committee and 2012 event and Jennifer Racca served as the committee vice chair.
NEW ORLEANS AREA
The World Trade Center of New Orleans is awarding Joel T. Chaisson, executive director of the Port of South Louisiana in LaPlace, with the C. Alvin Bertel Award.
The award is presented each year to an individual who has made significant contributions to the Greater New Orleans port community.
Gary Solomon Jr., president of the New Orleans-based Solomon Group, was named to Inc.’s “30 Under 30: World’s Coolest Young Entrepreneurs” list for 2013.
Donna Fenn, senior editor of Inc.’s 30-Under-30 list, cited Solomon’s company’s use of the latest technologies to beat out larger, more established competitors for major business.
Solomon Group was founded by Solomon with partners Steve Fink and Jonathan Foucheaux in 2009. Their work includes the exterior lighting system on the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, the new USS Tang exhibit at The National WWII Museum and live broadcast environments for CBS’s coverage of the Final Four and Super Bowl 2013.
The Roosevelt New Orleans, a Waldorf Astoria Hotel, has received the Chairman’s Award from the Downtown Development District of New Orleans.
The award was presented for “extraordinary contribution and commitment to the development of downtown New Orleans.”
The hotel was cited for its history and continuing role it plays in the city’s tourism industry.

The U.S. Department of Commerce has presented President’s E Awards for Exports to Reamco Inc. of Broussard; Boysenblue-Celtec International of Lafayette, Game Equipment LLC of Napoleonville; and Atlantis International of Harahan for making a significant contribution to the expansion of U.S. exports.
Reamco Inc. is an international drilling tool manufacturing, rental and refurbishing provider with a focus on supplying equipment and services to the oil and gas industry.
Boysenblue-Celtec is a manufacturer/distributor of drilling fluid additives also used in the oilfield.
Game Equipment manufactures and resells sugar cane tractors and loaders, pineapple sprayers, harvesters and other for the agricultural industry.
Atlantis International is a distributor of lubricant oils, greases, anti-freeze and brake fluids.
The Louisiana County Agents Association presented Keith Hawkins, LSU AgCenter county agent in Beauregard Parish, with its Achievement Award and René Schmit, LSU AgCenter county agent in St. Charles Parish and coordinator of the Louisiana Master Gardener program, with its Distinguished Service Award.
