Water aerobics offer lots of benefits - improved flexibility, increased cardiovascular endurance, weight loss and stronger muscles.

And, because the water helps support your weight and takes some of the stress off your legs and joints, it's ideal for individuals at any fitness level.

In addition, just being in the water can lessen stress and anxiety, resulting in better mental health and increased energy.

Penelope Sarnataro, an ACE-certified fitness instructor, demonstrates on dry land exercises that can be done in chest-deep water. Your feet should be able to touch the bottom of the pool at all times.

Sarnataro currently leads water aerobics, Silver Sneakers and Pilates classes at various gyms in the greater Baton Rouge area.
