Business Honors for May 2


The Louisiana State Bar Association is presenting Jamie Hurst Watts with its Outstanding Young Lawyer Award and Ryan Brown with the Young Lawyers Division Pro Bono Award.

Watts is a partner with the Long Law Firm LLP. She is being recognized for her service to the profession, having worked with the 19th Judicial District Court to begin the 50 Billable Hour Club and served on the Holiday Star Project, Summer Sizzlin’ CLE, Thirsty Thursday and Belly Up with the Bar.

Brown is an associate of Roedel, Parsons, Koch, Blache, Balhoff & McCollister ALC and is being recognized for his dedication to providing pro bono services in the community.

John Overton, owner and chief financial officer of TurnKey Solutions Inc., has been named the 2013 National Federation of Independent Business/Louisiana Small Business Champion of the Year.

The award honors members who excel in helping the association promote and protect the right of its members to own, operate and grow their businesses.

Overton has served on the NFIB/Louisiana Leadership Council and is chairman-elect of the volunteer advisory panel. He also is chairman of the Baton Rouge Area Chamber’s Small Business Council and serves on Gov. Bobby Jindal’s Small Business Advisory Council.

Terrance Johnson, a garbage truck driver for Republic Services Inc. in Baton Rouge, was named Driver of the Year in the large residential category by the Environmental Industry Association. He was recognized for his professionalism, loyalty, customer service and dedication to safety. He was selected from nearly 900 applicants nationally and from 33 applicants in Louisiana.


The U.S. Marshals Service, Eastern District of Louisiana of New Orleans, has been named a finalist for the 2013 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award. ­The Department of Defense recognizes employers for exceptional support of employees serving in the National Guard and Reserve. Thirty finalists were selected from 2,899 nominations.


The Louisiana Motor Transport Association announced winners of its 2013 Truck Driving Championships in nine classes of competition. Winners from the local area are:

STEP VAN: Tyrone Moore, Baton Rouge, Wal-Mart Stores, third place.

STRAIGHT TRUCK: Leroy Williams, Zachary, Con-way Freight, second; and Jeffery Trim, Baton Rouge, FedEx Ground, third.

THREE-AXLE VAN: Eric Courville, Breaux Bridge, FedEx Freight, first; Brad Wederstrandt, Covington, Con-way Freight, third.

FOUR-AXLE VAN: Lyle Trahan, Hammond, Wal-Mart Stores, third.

FIVE-AXLE VAN: Patrick Rudesill, Hammond, FedEx Ground, first; Louis Scaruffi, Kenner, Winn-Dixie Logistics, second; Cedric Moore, Zachary, Winn-Dixie Logistics, third.

The association also presented the Mechanics Award to Rex Boudreaux, Tickfaw, Winn-Dixie Logistics; Rookie of the Year to Cedric Moore, Zachary, Winn-Dixie Logistics; Team Trophy to Brookshire Grocery Co.; Grand Champion to Eric Courville, Breaux Bridge, FedEx Freight; and Safety Professional of the Year to Tammy Z. Cedotal, Arabie Trucking Service, Thibodaux.

Great West Fleet Safety Award winners were under 1,000,000 miles to Arabie Trucking Services LLC, Thibodaux; 1,000,001-3,000,000 miles to Hercules Transport Inc., Choudrant, and Winn-Dixie Logistics, Hammond; 6,000,001-9,000,000 miles to Dupre’ Logistics LLC, Lafayette; 9,000,001-12,000,000 miles to Quality Transport Inc., Baton Rouge; 12,000,001-20,000,000 miles to Wal-Mart Stores Inc., Opelousas; Most Improved to Arabie Trucking Services LLC, Thibodaux; and President’s Trophy to Hercules Transport Inc., Choudrant.
