Shipfitter job training planned Shipfitter job training planned Advocate business staff report June 03, 2013 Comments MORGAN CITY — A 10-week Shipfitting Boot Camp and Training event is being sponsored by the state’s workforce training program, South Central Louisiana Technical College and the Gulf States Shipbuilding Consortium in partnership with Lockport-based Bollinger Shipyards. The course is free and participants who successfully complete the boot camp will be interviewed for a shipfitter position with Bollinger. Bollinger’s hourly rates for shipfitters range from $14.25 to $22 per hour. Registration is required at www.bollingerjobs.com. Orientation for the boot camp will be held Tuesday on the Young Memorial Campus of SCL Technical College at 900 Youngs Road in Morgan City. Six orientation sessions will be held on the hour, with the first session starting at 1 p.m. Each session will last about 45 minutes. Participants must be at least 18 years old, a U.S. citizen, drug-free, committed to strict attendance requirements, have reliable transportation and have an interest in the shipbuilding/repair industry. Those who are offered a job must pass a pre-employment physical and drug screening.
