Small businesses graded Louisiana with a B+ in overall business friendliness, giving the state high marks for training programs and labor regulations.
The Thumbtack.com Small Business Friendliness Survey polled 7,766 small businesses across the United States about the friendliness of states and cities toward small business. Thumbtack.com is a website that puts local small businesses, such as contractors, photographers and lawn care companies, in touch with potential clients. The company teamed up with the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation for the survey.
Louisiana got an A for its small-business training and networking programs. Small businesses gave the state’s labor and employment laws an A-. Louisiana’s tax code earned a B+.
The top ranking states overall were Utah, Alabama, New Hampshire, Idaho and Texas. The lowest rated were Illinois, California, Hawaii, Maine and, in last place, Rhode Island.
