First-time claims for unemployment insurance in Louisiana decreased last week to 2,541 from the previous week’s total of 2,619, the state labor department reported Friday.
For the comparable week a year earlier, there were 3,303 initial claims.
The four-week moving average, which is a less volatile measure of claims, increased to 2,556 from the previous week’s 2,337.
Continued unemployment claims for the week ending April 27 increased to 23,148 compared to 22,934 the previous week.
The four-week moving average for such claims decreased to 23,015 from the previous week’s average of 23,088.
