Report shows low La. nursing home rates

Louisiana’s nursing home costs remain far below those nationwide, according to Genworth Financial Inc.’s 2013 Cost of Care Survey.

The median rate for a semi-private room at nursing homes in Baton Rouge and statewide is $150 per day, according to Genworth. Nationwide, the median rate is $207.

Half of the rooms cost below the median point, and half are above.

In Lafayette, the median rate is $139, while the New Orleans-Metairie-Kenner median rate is $152.

For private rooms, the median rate in Baton Rouge is $155 per day, compared to $230 nationwide, according to the survey. The median rate statewide is $160 per day. In Lafayette, the rate is $153 per day, and in New Orleans-Metairie-Kenner, the rate is $166.
