The staff at Pelican State Credit Union has earned the Community Development Certified Financial Counselors designation from the National Cooperative Business Association. The association certified
the training program created by grant writing and consulting firm CU Strategic Planning.

NEW ORLEANS

Les Alexander, a founder and managing partner of Faubourg Capital Partners and co-founder and founding president of Association for Corporate Growth Louisiana, received a 2013 Meritorious Service Award from the national
organization. The award is
given to ACG members who have provided distinguished volunteer service and leadership.

Our Lady of the Lake College and Tulane University were named to the 2013 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll with Distinction.

The program recognizes a commitment to volunteering, service-learning and civic engagement.

The Louisiana chapter of the Association for Corporate Growth announced the winners of its sixth annual ACG Louisiana Awards, which recognize growth companies, business professionals and noteworthy transactions in Louisiana.

The winners and categories are:

Pool Corp.: Outstanding corporate growth. Founded in 1993, the Covington company sells swimming pool equipment, parts and supplies and backyard-related products to roughly 80,000 wholesale customers around the world. The company operates over 300 locations worldwide with more than 3,200 employees.

Big Easy Blends: Emerging growth company. In 2007, Craig Cordes and LaMartina brothers Antonio and Sal partnered to develop pre-mixed frozen cocktails in flexible, portable pouches distributed in national store chains. The company operates under the name Cordina and employs 126 people and produces 1.2 million cases of product annually.

The Benson Family: Deal of the Year for the purchase of the NBA Hornets in New Orleans.

Wan Kim: Dealmaker of the Year. Kim, who operates more than 130 Smoothie Kings
in South Korea, bought the New Orleans-based parent company from its founders in July 2012.

Paul C. P. McIlhenny: A posthumous lifetime achievement award for his role in growing McIlhenny Co.’s Tabasco brand of products in New Iberia and his support of the wetlands restoration movement and coastal-zone management. McIlhenny entered the family business in 1967 and became the company’s president in 1998. At his death he
held the positions of chief executive officer and chairman of the board. McIlhenny
Co. was founded by Edmund McIlhenny in 1868 on Avery Island.
