The Patterson Resolution Group, a new arbitration and mediation services firm, has opened in Suite 500 of One United Plaza at 4041 Essen Lane in Baton Rouge.
The firm offers dispute resolution services in complex cases to businesses and individuals across Louisiana and the Gulf South.
The group manager is Michael A. Patterson, whose law practice has focused on business litigation, professional liability and construction law. Other founding members are retired judge W. Florida Parishes forestry forum set
HAMMOND — The 24th annual Florida Parishes Forestry Forum will be held March 15 in the University Center at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond.
Topics include local endangered species, timber tax tips, forest road runoff regulations, forestry labor issues, Master Loggers and the federal farm bill cost share programs.

LSU AgCenter plans beef cattle field day
JEANERETTE — The LSU AgCenter Iberia Research Station will hold its Acadiana Beef Cattle Producers Field Day at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at 603 LSU Bridge Road in Jeanerette.
Topics include calf management through weaning, deworming principles, starting pastures and hay fields, stocking rates and supplementation for heifers grazing on ryegrass, and cow-calf systems.
Different methods of handling calves will be demonstrated including castration, vaccination and tagging.
The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry will provide information on a cattle identification system.
Realtors discussing industry’s future
LAFAYETTE — Louisiana Realtors and the National Association of Realtors are hosting “REThink: the Future of Real Estate” 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Lafayette.
The interactive crowd-sourcing event is free to attend, but there is a $20 charge for lunch.
The NAR Strategic Planning Committee event is for agents, brokers, mortgage lenders, attorneys and industry to discuss the needs of and future changes to the real estate industry over the next five to 10 years. The discussion focuses on how changes will affect consumers, real estate professionals, industry organizations and associations.
The event is part of a two-year process to gather information.

Program accepting fund applications
Applications are being accepted for funding from the Environmental Quality Incentives Program, a voluntary conservation program, from agricultural and forestry producers at local USDA Service Centers.
The program is designed to help agricultural producers improve water and air quality, build healthier soil, improve grazing and forest lands, conserve energy, enhance organic operations and achieve other environmental benefits.
The current EQIP application period for special initiative funding ends March 15. Any applications received after March 15 will be considered in the next special initiative application period, which ends April 19.

Hilton Garden hotel near BR airport sold
New York-based Carey Watermark Investors Inc. has acquired the Hilton Garden Inn Baton Rouge Airport and four other hotels from Memphis-based Fairwood Capital LLC in a $39.5 million deal.
The New York real estate investment trust also assumed $64.5 million of debt in the deal. The other hotels in the deal are in Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama and Texas. The amount Carey Watermark paid for each hotel was not immediately available.
The 131-room Hilton Garden Inn cost $15 million to build and opened in October 2005.
Fairwood Capital is also a real estate investment trust, or REIT. The trusts invest in property or mortgages. If the trusts distribute at least 90 percent of earnings to shareholders, the REITs don’t pay corporate income tax on those profits. However, shareholders are taxed on the dividends.
