A sealed bid sale will take place in spring for the nearly 20-acre Metairie Cenacle site near Lake Pontchartrain and the sisters’ 31,900-square-foot residence.

Re/Max Commercial Brokers Inc. is conducting the sale. Bidding for the property will open Wednesday and all offers are due by 5 p.m. April 18.

Richard Juge, owner of Re/Max Commercial, said in a news release the bid sale will generate the most offers in the shortest time frame.

Sales-related access to the property on St. Mary Street is appointment only. Potential buyers and brokers must register at http://www.mysealedbid.com for complete property information and tour dates.

The Cenacle Sisters, a congregation of religious women, was founded in 1826 in La Louvesc, France. The group draws its name from the first Cenacle, the upper room in Jerusalem where Mary and the apostles prayed and awaited the coming of the Holy Spirit before they were sent out to spread the Gospel.

The religious group has been in Metairie since 1958. Cenacle announced this year it planned to close the Metairie location because there were no longer enough sisters to continue the group’s work there. The Metairie Cenacle has four sisters but used to have seven.

The sisters will live on the property and conduct their ministry programs through August.
