Two La. firms get dredging contracts
NEW ORLEANS — Two companies from Louisiana and seven other states have contracts for a total of up to $500 million in dredging for the Army Corps of Engineers.
A Defense Department news release says they’ll dredge throughout the South Atlantic Division through Dec. 21, 2013.
Two Louisiana companies are Weeks Marine Inc. of Covington and Mike Hooks Inc. of Westlake.
Others include Cottrell Contracting Corp. and Norfolk Dredging Co., both of Chesapeake, Va.; Marinex Construction Inc., and Southern Dredging Co. Inc., both of Charleston, S.C.; and, in Florida, Orion Marine Construction Inc., of Tampa, and Cavache Inc., of Fort Lauderdale.
The rest are Cashman Dredging and Marine Contracting Co. LLC, Quincy, Mass.; Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Co. LLC, Oak Brook, Ill.; Dutra Dredging Co., San Rafael, Calif.; and Manson Construction Co., Seattle, Wash.
New Orleans makes New Year’s site list
NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans is the 10th most popular destination for New Year’s revelers, according to discount travel site Hotwire.com.
Other members of the Top 10 in order are Orlando, Fla., with its theme parks; Chicago, which has a huge fireworks display over Lake Michigan; Las Vegas; New York City; Miami; San Francisco; London; San Diego; and Los Angeles.
“Booking trends show that travelers are opting for warm weather backdrops for their New Year’s Eve celebrations alongside the bigger, more traditional celebration cities,” Clem Bason, president of the Hotwire Group, said in a news release.
Proserv acquires oilfield services firm
Proserv, a United Kingdom oilfield services company, said it has acquired Total Instrumentation & Controls, which makes control systems for oilfield companies at its facilities in Houston and Lafayette.
Total employs 300, bringing Proserv’s global workforce to more than 1,600 in 10 counties.
Total provides installation and maintenance services to equipment manufacturing, drilling, production and pipeline companies. The company specializes in blow-out prevention for offshore wells.
