Entergy subsidiaries buy Ark., Miss. plants

Entergy Corp. subsidiaries in Arkansas and Mississippi have completed the purchase of two power plants in the two states.

Entergy Arkansas Inc. purchased the Hot Spring Energy Facility, a 620-megawatt, combined-cycle natural gas turbine unit, from KGen Hot Spring LLC for about $253 million.

Entergy Mississippi Inc. purchased the Hinds Energy Facility, a 450-megawatt, natural gas-fired power plant in Jackson, from KGen Hinds LLC for about $206 million.

Entergy said both purchases were a sizable discount to the cost to construct comparable facilities. The acquisitions were first announced in 2011.

Entergy Arkansas provides electricity to about 700,000 customers in 63 counties. Entergy Mississippi Inc. provides electricity to more than 437,000 customers in 45 counties.
