Hibbett Sporting Goods Inc., of Birmingham, Ala., will open its second Baton Rouge store on Burbank Drive next month.
The store, in Burbank Crossing Shopping Center just east of Gardere Lane on the north side of Burbank, should be open by mid-December, said Jessica Casto, a spokeswoman for the company.
The company said the store will employ eight full- and part-time workers.
Hibbett’s other Baton Rouge store is at Cortana Place off Airline Highway at Florida Boulevard. The chain has 42 stores in Louisiana, including locations in Lafayette, the North Shore and Chalmette.
“We’re thrilled to be opening another store in Baton Rouge,” President and Chief Executive Officer Jeff Rosenthal said in a news release. “People in Baton Rouge take their sports seriously, and we plan to give them the sporting goods products and know-how they’ve been looking for.”
Hibbett Sporting Goods operates more than 800 full-line sporting goods stores in small to midsized markets, most of them located in the Southeast, Mid-Atlantic and Midwest. The company’s primary store format is Hibbett Sports, a 5,000-square-foot store located in dominant strip centers and enclosed malls.
The company said it offers athletic equipment, footwear and apparel with an eye toward meeting the needs of team and individual sports participants, including localized apparel and accessories for teams and leagues.
