Lisa Traina, president of Traina & Associates of Baton Rouge, was one of 25 people to receive the 2012 Most Powerful Women in Accounting Award.

The award, in its inaugural year, was presented by CPA Practice Advisor and the American Society of Women Accountants. The award was based on the women’s contributions to the accounting profession; initiatives and actions that made a difference within their organization; their personal leadership; community involvement; and mentorship of future women leaders.

Traina has more than 30 years of experience in the technology field and is a nationally recognized speaker.

Advocate Supervisor Sharon Norwood has been named the Louisiana Capital Area CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) staff member of the Year.

Norwood supervises about 20 volunteers who are trained to advocate on behalf of abused and neglected children in the juvenile court and child protection systems. She has been an advocate supervisor for more than four years.

The Louisiana Industrial Development Executives Association has created the Mary Jo Hanover Award for Great Achievement in Economic Development and given it posthumously to Mary Jo Hanover. The association noted Hanover was a gifted professional and great ambassador for Louisiana and was involved in creating thousands of jobs in the state. The award will be given each year to a leader in economic development for the state.

Lafayette-based Excelerant, a leadership development and executive coaching firm, was named to Leadership Excellence magazine’s 2012 list of the 500 Best in Leadership Development.

The magazine graded Excelerant on seven criteria: vision/mission; design, content and curriculum; involvement and participation; measurement and accountability; presenters, presentations and delivery; take-home value; and outreach impact. The company was founded in 2003.

Messaging services firm Dexcomm won the Canadian Call Management Association (CAM-X) 2012 Award of Excellence. It was the fifth consecutive year Carencro-based Dexcomm, which also has a Baton Rouge location, won the award. Dexcomm also received the association’s Gold Award for sustained excellence.

Companies were graded on the courtesy of their operators, response time, accuracy and overall service quality to their clients. Dexcomm placed in the Top 10 for quality and service among the 99 call centers evaluated. CAM-X is a telephone-answering and message-delivery industry trade group.
