Tanger lists new stores under construction

Tanger Factory Outlet Centers Inc. said Thursday that construction has started on its previously announced $8 million expansion and renovation of Tanger Outlets Gonzales, listing among its new stores J. Crew, Talbots, Under Armour, Brooks Brothers, American Eagle and Loft.

The project will add 50,000 square feet to the center and include an upgrade in landscaping and more customer parking.

The new stores are scheduled to open in March, the company said in a news release.

When the expansion is complete, Tanger Outlets Gonzales will have more than 322,000 square feet of leasable space and house more than 60 shops and restaurants.

The Gonzales City Council approved an additional 1 percent sales tax for purchases made at Tanger, to help pay for the improvements. Part of the money will also go to the city to fund infrastructure improvements.

Retail sales resulting from the renovation are projected to create an estimated $15 million in additional tax revenue, Tanger said Thursday.

Tanger, of Greensboro, N.C., operates 39 outlet centers in 25 states and Canada.
