Jobless claims drop for week in La.

First-time claims for unemployment insurance in Louisiana for the week ending June 16 dropped to 3,806 from 4,272 the previous week.

The state labor department figures released Friday show the initial claims for the comparable week ending June 18, 2011, at 4,166.

The four-week moving average, which is a less volatile measure of claims, increased to 4,135 from the previous week’s total of 4,070.

Continued unemployment claims filed for the week ending June 16 totaled 34,698, an increase from 33,841 for the previous week. The four-week moving average for such claims increased to 33,257 from 32,573.
