Sales tax revenues within the city of Central were up 3.8 percent in October 2013 compared with October 2012, Central Chief Administrative Officer David Barrow said in a news release.

Sales tax revenues, excluding motor vehicle sales taxes, within the city totaled $383,416 for the month of October.

For the current fiscal year starting July 1, 2013, through October 31, 2013, sales tax revenues are up 3.08 percent compared to the same period in 2012.

Motor vehicle sales tax revenues are also up by 4.31 percent.

Postpartum group meets

Lane Regional Medical Center in Zachary is hosting New Mom’s Hope, a monthly support group for new mothers suffering from postpartum depression.

The group will meet from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 9 in the staff development classroom at the hospital.

The free support group, led by Dana LeTard, a licensed, professional counselor, will provide encouragement, education and support to new moms and mothers-to-be who are having emotional difficulty related to childbirth.

Diabetes group to meet

Lane Regional Medical Center in Zachary is hosting a Diabetes Support Group meeting from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 14.

The group is for people with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes as well as family, friends and caregivers of diabetics to learn more about the disease.

Readers, writers symposium

The Arts for All Arts Council of West Feliciana holds A Gathering of Writers and Readers, an annual symposium for writers and lovers of writing.

Artists are invited to submit a piece of original art that connects with literature in some way.

The art can incorporate letters, words or phrases, be based on a piece of literature, or simply remind the viewer of some piece or pieces of literature in general.

The art will be on display at the symposium Feb. 22 at Hemingbough Plantation on La. 965 in St. Francisville.

The artwork should be submitted to Marcia Roberg from noon to 5 p.m. Feb. 21 at the Birdman Coffee House, 5687 Commerce St., St. Francisville.

The art can also be dropped off at Hemingbough from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Feb. 22.

Artists should provide their names, the date of the piece, medium or media used, the title and author of the piece of literature that connects with the art, and easels to display the art, if needed.

Artists are asked to retrieve their artwork between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. Feb. 22.
