Councilman, representative open new office
East Baton Rouge Parish Metro Councilman Trae Welch and state Rep. Kenny Havard, R-Jackson, are opening a satellite office Friday that they say will help them to better serve their constituents.
The office, 21122-A Old Scenic Highway, Zachary, will be open from 8:30 a.m. to noon each Friday.
Residents of the district are invited to stop by and meet with their legislative assistants or call Welch at (225) 910-2052 or Havard at (225) 634-7470.
Saturday’s Clinton Community Market features about 75 vendors selling nearly everything and a special event, Lexlee’s Kids Back to School Blowout.
Lexlee Overton, a certified car seat inspector, will check visitors’ child car seats for proper installation and offers a free back-to-school supply pack for each car seat checked. She will be in front of the Overton law office on Lawyers’ Row, north of the courthouse.
Penitentiary hosts job fair
Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola will have a job fair from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday in the St. Francisville Town Hall’s conference room.
The penitentiary has openings for correctional officers, social workers and licensed practical nurses.

The Audubon Pilgrimage is offering an 1820s costume workshop at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 12 at Grace Episcopal Church’s Jackson Hall in St. Francisville. Persons interested in participating in costume at pilgrimage activities are invited to attend and learn how to make authentic costumes.
Zachary open house
Zachary High School and Zachary Career & Technical Center at Port Hudson will have an open house at the high school at 6 p.m. Thursday for parents and community members.
Parents will meet at the high school gym for orientation that highlights the theme “Let Awesome Happen.” After that, parents will be directed to classrooms. Refreshments will be served in the high school’s atrium to conclude the program.
Lane Regional Medical Center’s Diabetes Support Group meets at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the hospital in Zachary. Diabetes patients and family, friends and others in a supporting role are invited to attend. Registration is not required.
Historic site programs
Rosedown Plantation State Historic Site, St. Francisville, has its monthly Garden Tour at 10 a.m. Friday, while Port Hudson State Historic Site presents its monthly Civil War firepower program from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, featuring demonstrations with Civil War-era reproduction weapons.
Audubon State Historic Site, La. 965 in West Feliciana Parish, presents “In the Footsteps of Audubon” at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday. The tour follows the paths where John James Audubon walked in 1821 and includes a presentation on the prints Audubon created while at Oakley Plantation.
