The Feliciana Nature Society’s annual Feliciana Hummingbird Celebration will be Friday and Saturday in the St. Francisville area. The celebration promotes the unique hummingbird habitat found in West Feliciana Parish.

The celebration begins with a 6 p.m. reception Friday at Rosedown Plantation State Historic Site. Visitors may enjoy wine and cheese while strolling through the site’s gardens, with Kathryn Fontenot of the LSU AgCenter speaking later. Admission Friday night is $10.

Visitors may watch biologists capture and band hummingbirds from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at two private gardens. Admission Saturday is free. The gardens of Carlyle Rogillio, 5736 Tunica Trace (La. 66), and Murrell Butler, 9485 Oak Hill Road, will be open.

Maps can be found at the Historical Society Museum on Ferdinand Street in the historic district or at Rosedown’s Friday night function.

Plants will be available for purchase at St. Mary’s Church on La. 66, which will be open to visitors Saturday.

Humane Society gala

The West Feliciana Animal Humane Society and the James L. “Bo” Bryant Animal Shelter will hold an anniversary gala Saturday at Jackson Hall in St. Francisville. The event begins at 6 p.m. with food, drink, live music and a silent auction. A fashion show and more music are at 7 p.m.

Jackson State alumni

The Baton Rouge chapter of the Jackson State University Alumni Association will meet from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Baker branch library, 3501 Groom Road. Jackson State alums are urged to attend.

Highway lane closures

The westbound lanes of Main Street (La. 64) in Zachary will be closed from 7 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday for sewer repairs. Traffic will be diverted to two-way traffic lanes between Carpenter Road and La. 19.

Lane blood drive

United Blood Services will hold a blood drive at Lane Regional Medical Center in Zachary from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday. The blood drive is open to the public, and registration is not required.

Lunch and learn

A demonstration of the latest in Bluetooth listening devices will be held by Selective Hearing during Lane Regional Medical Center’s free Lunch and Learn program from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the hospital.

Driver safety course

An AARP Driver Safety Course will be held at Lane Regional Medical Center from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday for drivers age 50 and older.

911 open house

The public is invited to a noon to 2 p.m. open house Aug. 2 at the East Feliciana Parish Emergency Communications District’s new headquarters and call center, 12486 Feliciana Drive, Clinton. Lunch will be served.
