Baker honors school employees

The Baker School Board recognized employees of the year for the 2012-13 school term at a meeting Tuesday.

The principal of the year is Tammy Armand-Golden, of Park Ridge Academic Magnet School, while teachers of the year are Marcus Bennett, also of Park Ridge, and Brittany Hinyard, of Baker Middle School.

Support employees of the year are Jacqueline Beshears-Boyd, Park Ridge; Willie Williams, Baker Middle School; and district bus driver Latasha Jarvis.

DEMOLITION WORK: Superintendent Ulysses Joseph said workers have begun tearing down the “bricks and mortar” of the Baker High School football stadium and started on renovations to the school’s auditorium. A new stadium is scheduled to be completed before football season begins.

DUAL ENROLLMENT: The board approved a contract with Baton Rouge Community College that allows Baker’s high school juniors and seniors to earn college credits.

BRCC AGREEMENT: For the second consecutive meeting, the board deferred action on an agreement to allow BRCC to use Baker High facilities for welding, pipefitting and other trades after regular classes are over.

Joseph said security concerns about use of the buildings have not been resolved.
