Zachary celebrating schools’ achievement

The Zachary community will celebrate its school district’s eighth straight designation as Louisiana’s top school district with a 6:30 p.m. Thursday gathering in the high school’s football stadium.
The gates open at 6 p.m., and all Zachary residents are invited to attend for free food and refreshments, prizes, a school spirit contest and a city-sponsored fireworks display.
Grandparents meeting
The Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Support Group will meet at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Baker branch library on Groom Road. The organization offers support to grandparents raising grandchildren or other relatives. A guest speaker, refreshments and door prizes will be part of the program. Ribbon-cutting planned
Lane Regional Medical Center and the Zachary Chamber of Commerce will cut a ribbon at 10 a.m. Monday to open Lane Surgery Group at 4801 McHugh Road, Suite C.
General surgeons Thomas Kang and Samuel Field will be available to answer questions. Refreshments will be served, and the public is invited to attend.
Kitty adoptions
The West Feliciana Animal Humane Society will have kittens for adoption at Ins-N-Out Nursery, 5211 Legion St., St. Francisville, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The James L. “Bo” Bryant Animal Shelter, 9946 West Feliciana Parkway, also opens for cat and dog adoptions each Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Clinton markets
The Clinton Market Committee announces two community markets this month, one on Saturday and the other on Nov. 17. Hours are 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., and more than 100 vendors offer a variety of produce, gift items and food. The vendors set up shop in the area around the courthouse square.
Clinton reorganization
A public meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. at the Art Barn on Bank Street in Clinton to reorganize the East Feliciana Community Center Inc., which is trying to preserve and restore the old Clinton High School building. Anyone interested in preserving a bit of history is invited to attend.
Garden tour
Rosedown Plantation State Historic Site in St. Francisville continues its series of “Garden Tour Fridays” with a guided garden tour at 10 a.m. Friday. Horticulturist Patricia Aleshire will lead the stroll through Rosedown’s historic gardens, pointing out significant heirloom varieties of plantings and focusing on both historic and modern cultivation techniques.
Baker teen activity
Teenagers interested in the Asian art of origami may learn from a master of folded paper figures, Peter Sze, at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Baker branch library, 3501 Groom Road. Examples of his art have been on display at the library. Call (225) 778-5960 to register for the class.
