Rodeo action set Friday, Saturday
The 19th annual Dan Klein Memorial Rodeo offers rodeo spills and thrills Friday and Saturday night and serves as a fundraiser for the McManus Volunteer Fire Department and the East Feliciana Parish Veterans Memorial proposed by the Jackson Tourist Enhancement Committee.
The rodeo arena is on Gross Road, a short distance off Plank Road south of Clinton, and performances are scheduled at 8 p.m. both nights. The gates will open at 6 p.m.
Tickets are $10 at the gate, but advance tickets are available from Junior ROTC members at East Feliciana High School, the farmers’ cooperatives in Slaughter and Clinton, McKnights and Pat’s Hardware in Clinton and Cuts by Tiffany in Jackson.
Geek it up
The Zachary branch library, 1900 Church St., invites the public to stop by any time during regular hours Monday through Sunday for “Geek Week,” where you are asked to share your thoughts about the library and what you’d like to see in the future.
Audubon programs
The Audubon Regional Library is sponsoring a free, daylong class on the Excel 2010 level 1 computer program, starting at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Jackson branch. Registration is through the Louisiana State Library at (888) 487-2700. Call (225) 634-7408 for more information.
Diane L. Dorsey, who wrote a book on Hurricane Katrina’s aftermath, will discuss how to self-publish a book during a visit to the St. Helena branch in Greensburg from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
Soccer challenge
Boys and girls ages 10-14 are invited to participate Sept. 20 in local competition for the 2012 Knights of Columbus Soccer Challenge. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. at the West Feliciana Sports Park, and competition begins at 6 p.m.
Winners progress through local, district and state events, and international winners are based on state scores.

Lane programs
Join Dr. Gregory Crenshaw of Vascular Specialty Center for an informal question-and-answer session during the “Ask the Doctor” Lunch and Learn program at noon Wednesday in the Staff Development Classroom at Lane Regional Medical Center in Zachary. Beauchamp honored
A reception to honor Douglas Beauchamp Jr. for his service as East Feliciana school superintendent and community volunteer will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Clinton.
Beauchamp is chief of the Clinton Volunteer Fire Department.
