Fourth suspect booked in Aug. 8 slaying
CLINTON — Police arrested a fourth suspect in the Aug. 8 drug deal and shooting that resulted in the death of a Clinton man, Police Chief Eddie Stewart said Tuesday.
Stewart said earlier this month that Isaac Simmons, 42, was hit by a bullet as he walked along a street where a drug deal, in which he was not involved, turned into an armed robbery attempt.
The police chief said Eric Keller, 26, 10722 Johnson St., Clinton, surrendered to officers Monday after learning police had a warrant for his arrest.
Keller was booked at the East Feliciana Parish Prison with manslaughter, distribution of cocaine, participating in a transaction involving drug proceeds and two counts of criminal conspiracy.
The counts are the same as those lodged against Quinton Rashad Loyell, 30, 1763 McHugh Road, Baker, on Friday, but Loyell also was booked with additional drug counts after police found a large amount of marijuana in his car.
The first arrests in the case were of Jerald Matthews, 26, and Cordero L. Morgan, 25, both of Baton Rouge, who were booked with first-degree murder in Simmons’ slaying.
