Library offers series of pottery classes

Audubon Regional Library will begin pottery classes for middle school-age children, teens and adults with Quaja Bell, “the pottery chick,” at the St. Helena branch in Greensburg at 10 a.m. Friday. She also will hold classes Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Clinton at the United Methodist Church and at 1 p.m. at the Jackson branch. These lessons will continue through July.

Caroline Harrell will hold free art lessons at the St. Helena branch in Greensburg at 10 a.m. Thursday and on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the month.

Performers at the library will be Kevin Johnson with Rhythm & Groves at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Jackson branch and Captain Papillion, pirate stories for kids, at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Greensburg.

USO Dance tickets

Tickets are still available for Saturday’s “USO Dance” from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Lions Club Civic Center in Jackson, which is sponsored by the Jackson Tourist Enhancement Committee.

Proceeds will be used to help build a Feliciana Veterans Memorial.

Thrift shop open

Dorcas Door, the thrift store at 11152 Church St., behind First Baptist Church of Clinton, will be open from 9 a.m. to noon during Market Day Saturday for a bag sale.

OLLI summer classes

The Feliciana Chapter of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at LSU announced three summer programs.

Owen Kemp will teach beginning yoga from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning July 12. The fee is $45.

Linda Lightfoot will teach “Louisiana Goes to the Supreme Court” beginning Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The fee is $18.

David Bunch will lead discussions on the book of Job beginning July 12. The fee also is $18.

Most classes will be held at First Baptist Church’s Old Fellowship Hall on La. 10 in St. Francisville. Call [phone] for more information, to renew a membership or to join. OLLI classes are for people 50 and older.

Historic Audubon

Audubon State Historic Site presents a program on slavery from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. “An Enslaved Life” will take visitors through the historic slave quarters of the Oakley House plantation to see how slaves lived, hear stories of their struggles and accomplishments and taste the food cooked by their families.

On Sunday, the program “In the Footsteps of Audubon” includes 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. expanded tours of Oakley House and presentations on the prints John James Audubon created at the plantation.
