Battle re-enactment this weekend
The 21st annual Battle of Jackson Crossroads re-enactment will be held Saturday and Sunday on La. 68, south of La. 10 and near the original site of the 1863 Civil War battle.
Civil War re-enactors from several states muster for the event, sponsored by the Living History Association of Jackson, La.
The gates open at 9 a.m. Saturday for visitors to view military demonstrations and camp life, visit tent stores and listen to the music of Jed Marum. The battle re-enactment will be at 2:30 p.m.
On Sunday, the day begins with a 9 a.m. church service, and the battle starts at 1:30 p.m.
Admission is $7 for adults, $6 for visitors 62 and older and $3 for children. Children 6 and younger will be admitted without charge.
Food and refreshment booths will be operating.
Drug use surveys
The Capital Area Human Services District will hold meetings in St. Francisville on Friday and in Clinton on May 3 to discuss parish results of a survey of what positive and negative forces students face in the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. The public is invited.
The Friday meeting will be at the St. Francisville United Methodist Church fellowship hall on Fidelity Street at 11:45 a.m. The May 3 session will be at the School Board office, 12732 Silliman St., Clinton, at 11:30 a.m.
Safety festival
The Zachary Police Explorer Post presents its Second annual Safety Festival from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. May 5, behind the police station. The event includes a car and motorcycle show, music, arts and crafts, jambalaya dinners and many activities and demonstrations related to safety.
Meet and greet
The St. Francisville Chamber of Commerce invites the public to a May 3 reception at Old Market Hall on Royal Street to meet West Feliciana Parish’s new economic development director, Dennis Manshack. The event is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Vitter visiting
U.S. Senator David Vitter, R-La., will be at the Slaughter Town Hall at 9:30 a.m. Monday to meet with his constituents.
Mother’s Day tours
Arts for All in St. Francisville is sponsoring a tour of three art galleries on Mother’s Day, May 13. Two of the galleries are those of professional artists, painter Murrell Butler and potter Michael Miller, and the third “gallery” is the home of art collectors Sam and Noelle LeBlanc.
Tickets, $25 each, are available at the Birdman Coffee and Books, 5687 Commerce St. in St. Francisville. On May 13, tickets will be sold at the Arts for All Studio at 11911 Ferdinand St. from noon to 2 p.m. The galleries will be open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Infusion center opens
Lane Regional Medical Center in Zachary has opened its Infusion Center, offering an alternative to a traditional hospital setting for receiving intravenous infusion therapy prescribed by physicians.
The center is on the third floor of the Lane Medical Plaza and Outpatient Diagnostic Center, 6550 Main St. Each infusion station has a flat-screen television, guest chairs, wireless Internet, reading materials, blankets and snacks. For more information or physician referrals, call (225) 658-4522.
