One killed in car, motorcyle crash

A Baton Rouge woman was killed Friday afternoon in the collision of a motorcycle and a car, a State Police spokesman said.

The collision occurred on La. 10 west of La. 955 in East Feliciana Parish shortly after 2 p.m., Trooper Russell Graham said.

Graham said troopers’ preliminary investigation showed that Hubert Millet, 74, of Slaughter, was driving a 2003 Ford passenger car when he pulled out from a private drive, attempting to turn left onto La. 10 but in the path of a 2010 Harley-Davidson operated by Bernard
Schweitzer, 51, of Dodge, N.D.

The motorcycle struck the left side of the Ford and Schweitzer and his passenger were both thrown from the motorcycle. Schweitzer sustained serious injuries and was transported to a Baton Rouge hospital.

His passenger, Debra Benoit, 48, of Baton Rouge, suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene by the East Feliciana Parish coroner, Graham said.

Millet and his passenger, Ruby Millet, 67, were not injured in the collision, Graham said.

Troopers do not suspect alcohol to have been a factor in the collision, but a sample of Schweitzer’s blood will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Laboratory for chemical analysis, the Troop A spokesman said.

No charges were filed Friday afternoon, and the crash remained under investigation, he said.
