The closure of Duplessis Road at La. 73 planned for Oct. 9 has been rescheduled to start at 8 a.m. Oct. 16.
Ascension Parish President Tommy Martinez said the intersection will reopen at 5 p.m. Oct. 30.
Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development officials said the closure was rescheduled because contracted construction crews were delayed in installing asphalt on La. 73 because of Tropical Storm Karen.
Gonzales basketball registration begins

Gonzales city basketball registration will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 19 and Oct. 26 at Gonzales City Hall.
Registration is $50.
Boys and girls ages 5-14 can sign up.

Ascension’s first walk, fun-run slated Nov. 2
Registration is underway for Volunteer Ascension’s first Live, Love Volunteer Fun-Run/Walk fundraiser.
The fundraiser is Nov. 2 in Jambalaya Park.
Volunteer Ascension is a nonprofit organization formed after focus meetings held by the Parish President and Council in 1997. The agency promotes volunteerism, operates drives to collect school supplies and uniforms and holds a summer volunteer programs for teens.
“Unfortunately, we need more funds each year to keep up with day-to-day requests from the public,” Denig said.
Pre-registration is through Oct. 18.

Posters sought for Veteran’s Day contest
Ascension Republican Women is kicking off its Veteran’s Day Poster Contest for middle and high school students in Ascension Parish.
The deadline to enter is Nov. 1.
Winners are eligible for cash prizes.
The posters must include the words “Ascension Parish Honors American Veterans – November 11, 2013” and have a military theme.
