The monthly Ascension Senior Sock Hop set for Friday has been canceled because of the Louisiana Hot Air Balloon Championship, which will be held at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center.

The next dance will be from noon to 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25.

Ascension Catholic hosts Food Festival

Games, a rock-climbing wall and food are on the agenda Sunday at Ascension Catholic Diocesan Regional School’s annual fair.

The Ascension Catholic Food Festival will be on the campus at 311 St. Vincent St. throughout the day.

Several activities will highlight the day, including a school-sponsored fun run/battle of the classes at 9 a.m. Games, inflatables and a rock wall will be available beginning at 10:30 a.m.

The food will follow, with fried fish, gumbo, stew, barbecue and hamburgers being served starting at 11:30 a.m.

The school’s dance team, band and cheerleaders will perform, and an auction starts at 1:30 p.m.

Primary school offers tours at open house

St. John Primary Catholic School is hosting an open house starting at 9 a.m. Tuesday at its Prairieville campus.

Tours will be offered at the pre-kindergarten through third grade school.

Council on Aging seeks new members

The Ascension Council on Aging is holding its annual membership drive through Oct. 7.

Membership in the council is open to parish residents age 18 and older.

There is no fee for membership.

Anyone interested in the problems and concerns of the elderly and wishing to serve in some capacity may apply at 101 Bocage Dr., Donaldsonville; and at 526 South Irma Blvd., Gonzales.

The annual meeting of the Ascension Council on Aging will take place at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21 at the Gonzales Senior Center.

Suicide prevention walk set for Oct. 5

Plans are underway for the Gonzales Out of the Darkness Walk set for Saturday, Oct. 5, in Jambalaya Park.

The community walk is an awareness and fundraiser program for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
