Organizers with the 2013 Louisiana Hot Air Balloon Championship Festival, set Sept. 26 through Sept. 29 at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center, are inviting businesses to welcome the 60 pilots taking part in the event with a balloon glow. Light Up the Night, Ascension will feature hot air balloons inflating and glowing at businesses across the parish. The Chinese exercise program will be held each Wednesday through Oct. 23 at the center, 525 S. Irma Blvd. Tai chi can decrease stress and anxiety, increase aerobic capacity and improve balance and flexibility, said a news release from the Ascension Council on Aging, the host of the class . River Parishes Community College’s technical campus is hosting a Career Expo from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 26 at 9697 U.S. 61, Sorrento. The expo will feature career information. Visitors can shake the hands of potential employers and find out about job positions they might qualify for with a degree from River Parishes Community College. Run for Life supports organ donation Relatives of the late Shawn Elizabeth Guillot are encouraging area residents to take part in the Oct. 3 Rabalais Run for Life in Baton Rouge. The run is a fundraiser for the Louisiana Organ Procurement Association. Guillot died in 1991 from injuries in a car wreck. Her parents, Don and Peggy Guillot, donated her organs and they have been involved with LOPA for several years. The Guillot family is hosting a team in the run.
