Advocate story Sept. 12, 2013 Comments While Ascension Parish Recreation Coordinator Ajia Mitchell was disappointed that just two youths showed up for Saturday’s Punt, Pass and Kick Competition in Donaldsonville, she said the low turnout does not deter her from continuing efforts to bring recreation activities to the city. The two boys who did show up came from Covington and New Orleans to compete for a chance at the finals of the contest, which are held at the Super Bowl. They qualified to compete in sectionals later this year, she said. Punt, Pass and Kick, sponsored by the National Football League and USA Football, began in 1961 and offers separate competitions for boys and girls ages 6 to 15. Mitchell also sponsors the annual Major League Baseball skills contest and Hershey’s Track and Field program. This was Ascension Parish government’s first time hosting the PPK.
