Advocate staff report Sept. 07, 2013 Comments Friends and relatives of Breanna Lyn Bercegeay, 11, a Dutchtown Middle School cheerleader diagnosed with leukemia in June, are holding a Cheering for Breanna fundraiser Sept. 14 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Gonzales. Dawn Bertucci, one of the organizers of the fundraiser, said the event, from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., will feature music, a car show, jambalaya cook-off, sack race, craft booth, clowns, games and blood drive. Proceeds from the event will benefit Breanna’s recovery and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, where Breanna is being treated, Bertucci said. The Lil Bayou Band will play from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and Mike and Steve Broussard will perform from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. The Baton Rouge Corvette Club is hosting a car show and the jambalaya cook-off starts at 8 a.m. An auction is from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Breanna is set to have a bone marrow transplant in October, Bertucci said. A Facebook page has been set up for friends and relatives to follow Breanna’s treatment journey, Bertucci said. For information, email email@example.com.
