Advocate staff report Aug. 21, 2013 Comments Gonzales City Councilman Gary Lacombe awarded scholarships to three high school graduates. Lacombe said the presentation fulfilled a campaign promise to donate 50 percent of his City Council stipend toward scholarships. Each student received $800 to pursue his or her post-secondary education. Scholarship recipients included 2013 East Ascension High School graduates Victoria “Tori” Achord, Eric Murrell and Brayden Newchurch. Achord, who graduated with honors, will attend Our Lady of the Lake College to pursue a degree in nursing. Murrell, who graduated fourth in his class, will attend LSU to study mechanical engineering. Newchurch is enrolled in LSU with plans to study mechanical engineering.
