A Ford F-350 carrying three people was traveling west on I-10 when one of the truck’s tires blew out, causing the driver to lose control and strike a guardrail near the La. 44 exit in Gonzales, said Sgt. Steve Nethken, spokesman for the Gonzales Police Department. The driver, partially ejected from the truck, died as a result of his injuries, Nethken said. A female passenger and young child also in the vehicle at the time of the wreck were transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Gonzales for treatment of serious injuries. Names of the driver and two passengers were withheld Thursday afternoon pending notification of family members, Nethken said. An autopsy and toxicology tests will be performed on the driver to see if alcohol or impairment may have been factors in the wreck, Nethken said.
