Vacherie woman dies Monday after two-vehicle crash Vacherie woman dies Monday after two-vehicle crash Advocate staff report Aug. 06, 2013 Comments A 70-year-old Vacherie woman whose car was struck broadside by a pickup on La. 20 died Monday at St. James Parish Hospital in Lutcher. Virgia Folse, driving a 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier, was turning left onto La. 20 from a parking lot at 11:20 a.m. Monday when she was struck broadside by a Ford F-250 pickup driven by Kirk Melancon, 52, of Vacherie, Trooper First Class Evan Harrell said. Troopers determined that Folse, for unknown reasons, pulled into the path of the truck and was struck by Melancon, who was traveling west on La. 20. Both Folse and Melancon were wearing seat belts, Harrell said, and Melancon was transported to Thibodaux Regional Hospital with minor injuries. Melancon was not cited in the accident because Folse failed to yield the right of way, Harrell said. Troopers do not suspect that alcohol was a factor in the crash, but routine toxicology tests will be performed at the State Police Crime Lab for both drivers.
