Seven arrested in Ascension drug case

Seven Ascension Parish residents have been arrested on drug charges following a Sheriff’s Office investigation in Prairieville, authorities said Thursday.

The Sheriff Office’s narcotics division began an investigation on July 15 into reports of drug activity on La. 929, Maj. Kevin Hanna said in a news release.

Crystal Carter, 31, 17264 La. 929, Prairieville, and Jeffrey Walker, 32, 37284 Sue St., Geismar, were booked into the Ascension Parish Jail following a traffic stop that turned up drugs, Hanna said.

Carter was booked on five counts of drug possession, including methamphetamine, while Walker was booked on three counts of drug possession and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Following the arrests of Carter and Walker, narcotics detectives searched Carter’s home and that search led to the arrests of five other people on counts of heroin and methamphetamine possession. The other suspects are:

  • Kyle Fletcher, 30, 12282 Calcote Road, Gonzales, possession of Schedule I controlled dangerous substance, possession of Schedule II controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia.
  • Morgan Patterson, 21, 17264 La. 929, Prairieville, possession of methamphetamine, possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia.
  • Joanna Wascom, 28, 2013 N. Amelia St., Gonzales, possession of Schedule II controlled dangerous substance, possession of Schedule I controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia.
  • Jennifer Odom, 29, 37214 Swamp Road, Prairieville, possession of methamphetamine, possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia.
  • Caleb Wheat, 27, 44102 La. 429, St. Amant, possession of Schedule II controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of heroin.

All seven suspects were being held Thursday afternoon in the Parish Jail pending a bond hearing.
