Twelve area celebrities will cha-cha, swing dance, salsa, foxtrot and pasa doble across the stage Saturday night for the fifth annual Dancing for a Cause fundraiser.

The event raises money for Community Opportunities - the Arc of East Ascension.

Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales. Tickets are $30 and available by calling (225) 621-2000 or at the door.

School supply drives set

Volunteer Ascension’s School Tools Drive will collect paper, pencils, rulers, crayons and other school supplies Saturday. Volunteers will collect the school supplies, which are handed out to area children through the eighth grade, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Wal-Mart stores in Gonzales, Prairieville and Donaldsonville and at the Office Depot in Gonzales.

The agency’s Stuff the Bus collection day is from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Gonzales Office Depot.

Road closure announced

A portion of La. 431 north of St. Amant High School will be closed from 7 a.m. Saturday to 3 p.m. Sunday so crews can remove and replace a drainage pipe under the road.

Signs will show alternate routes, a spokesman for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development said in a news release.

Soccer registration

Registration is underway for the Gonzales Soccer Club’s upcoming season. The club offers soccer for players ages 4 to 17. To register, visit gonzalessoccerclub.com and click on the registration link.

Prizes will be awarded to 12 players who register using the online system by July 20.

Recycling Road Show

Ascension Parish government’s monthly Recycling Road Show recycling truck will be in the Prairieville Wal-Mart store parking lot from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

The event was moved from its traditional first Saturday slot due to the holiday.

“We decided to reschedule our July recycling event a week later because of the July Fourth holiday weekend falling on the first Saturday,” Ascension Parish Environmental Manager Don Hysell said.

Residents can drop off newspapers, magazines and catalogs; phone books and paperback books; mail, colored paper and envelopes; milk and juice cartons; cardboard, detergent and cereal boxes, 12-pack drink cartons and flattened boxes; aluminum, tin or bimetal cans and metal lids; and No. 1 through No. 7 plastic containers.

The Recycling Road Show is not accepting glass, aerosol cans, wire hangers, bags, hangers, caps, lids, six-pack rings, photos, carbon paper, wax-coated frozen food packaging, takeout food containers or chemical containers.

Food, praise event at park
