St. Amant teacher gets state recognition

St. Amant High School biology teacher Lori Ridgdell’s dedication to teaching has been rewarded by her peers.

Ridgedell, who has taught at the school for 13 years, recently received the Louisiana Outstanding Biology Teacher Award sponsored by the National Association of Biology Teachers.

“It’s because of teachers like you why Ascension Parish is such a great school district,” School Board President Troy Gautreau said during a recent presentation at a School Board meeting honoring Ridgdell.

She will receive the award at the Honors Luncheon in November at the NABT conference in Atlanta.

“I know first-hand how good of a teacher she is,” Assistant Superintendent Steve Westbrook said. Westbrook was principal at St. Amant High School prior to moving to the central office in 2011 and whose three daughters all were taught by Ridgdell.

“You are a shining exemplar of what great teaching can be.”
