Children, parents invited to go fishing

Children and their parents are invited to take part in the Ascension Fair Association’s annual “Kids, Let’s Go Fishing” day Saturday at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center pond.

The fishing starts with registration at 7:45 a.m. and goes until noon.

The free program is for boys and girls ages 6 and older. A free lunch will be provided.

Summer youth tennis camp offered

Hope Youth Development is hosting a summer tennis camp for children ages 6 to 12 at the Gonzales Municipal Courts.

Camp starts at 8 a.m. June 26 and will be held for four consecutive Wednesdays.

Equipment will be provided for a $40 registration fee.

Input sought on plan for Crescent Park

The city of Donaldsonville and SJB Group LLC are holding a community meeting to get input on proposed improvements to Crescent Park from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Donaldsonville City Hall, 609 Railroad Ave.

Planned renovations include a new festival pavilion, a farmer’s market facade, improved lighting and seating, and new decorative paving.

The meeting will give the public an opportunity to review the current preliminary plan with city officials and members of the design team, and discuss options as to its development.

Volunteers needed to clean up litter

Volunteers are needed for Saturday’s Stash the Trash event in Donaldsonville.

The Donaldsonville Downtown Development District and Keep Louisiana Beautiful will host the litter pick and beautification day event from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The event will focus on the city’s historic district.

Volunteers are asked to check in at Donaldsonville City Hall, 609 Railroad Ave., for supplies and tools. Special volunteers for tree trimming at Louisiana Square are asked to bring their own pruning shears.

Scrap metal recycling will be available during this time only, organizers said.

Fundraiser concert tickets being sold

Tickets are on sale for an Aug. 24 concert to raise money for Families Helping Families of Greater Baton Rouge.

A portion of the ticket sales will be donated to the nonprofit agency.

The concert starts at 7 p.m. at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center and will include performances by GC Cameron, Vince Hutchinson & the Heavy Storm Band, Comedian C’More Brown, Nebu Nezey and others.
