Day of service

New Teach for America corps members learned about the history of Ascension Parish plantation country and helped out during a community service project June 5 at the River Road African American Museum.

Museum Executive Director Kathe Hambrick Jackson talked to the new teachers about the rich history of the area before about a dozen of the volunteers painted and cleaned up at the museum’s Rosenwald Schoolhouse.

More than 100 new TFA teachers were welcomed to south Louisiana last week, many spending their first few days interviewing and settling in to their new communities.
