Advocate staff report May 16, 2013 Comments Stevi Girouard will reign over the Jambalaya Festival later this month as Miss Gonzales Jambalaya. Girouard, 18, was crowned May 4 at a pageant in Gonzales. Alyssa Gordillo was crowned 2013 Teen Miss Gonzales Jambalaya. Contestants vying for both titles took part in interviews at the home of longtime Jambalaya Festival Association members Frank and Carol Frederic before heading to the Gonzales Civic Center for the pageant. The Gonzales Civic Center was decorated in the theme “Jambalaya & Co. Presents: A Pageant at Tiffany’s”, thanks Laurina Conger and Laurie Scioneaux, the mothers of the 2012 outgoing queens. Contestants and reigning queens danced to “Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend.” Carol Ann Frederic and Todd Long emceed the event. Lexie Scioneaux, 2012 Teen Miss; and Meredith Conger, outgoing Miss Gonzales Jambalaya, played a slideshow featuring photographs of their travels throughout their yearlong reigns. Past Jambalaya Festival queens Laurie Fridge Brumfield, Jace Templet Babin, Brittney Robert, Elise Tureau, Jenna Levert, Tabitha Babin and Kaylea Magee attended the event. Girouard, the daughter of Dane and Sharon Girouard of Gonzales, is a 2012 graduate of East Ascension High School and freshman at Southeastern Louisiana University studying social studies education. Gordillo, 16, is the daughter of Jana and Pedro Gordillo of Geismar. She is a junior at Dutchtown High School. In the teen division, Jenna Cornett was named second alternate and Renee Delaune, first alternate. Maria Vidrine won second alternate in the Miss division and Jacqueline Gautreau, first alternate. The children’s division of the pageant was held the following day, with 53 children competing for titles. Winners included: Baby King, Maverick Clements. Junior King, Ethan Sutton. Baby Miss, Londyn Louque. Toddler Miss, Averie Bourgeois. Tiny Miss, Gabriella Rizzuto. Mini Miss, Chloe Duplessis. Petite Miss, Presley Kling. Deb Miss, Alyssa Peralta. Junior Miss, Mackenzie Nassar. The Jambalaya Festival is May 23-26 along Irma Boulevard in Gonzales.
