Austin, Bourgeois earn top EAHS honors Austin, Bourgeois earn top EAHS honors Rebecca Austin Advocate staff report May 09, 2013 Comments Rebecca Lynn Austin has been named valedictorian of the East Ascension High School graduating class. The EAHS graduation ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Spartan Stadium. Austin, with a 4.7869 grade-point average, is the daughter of Peter Austin and Melissa Austin. She plans to major in chemical engineering while attending Louisiana State University’s Honors College. Austin has received the Academic Scholars Resident Award at LSU, Eatel Corp. Top Scholar Award and all-district and all-metro distinctions in soccer and cross country. She is a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Honor Society, East Ascension Prom Court and Baton Rouge Soccer Club. Kayla Gernai Bourgeois, with a 4.67 GPA, was named salutatorian. Bourgeois is the daughter of Shandrell S. Bourgeois and Michael C. Bourgeois. She plans to major in pre-pharmacy at Mississippi State University. She won all-district, all-metro and all-state soccer honors and the NAACP Scholarship. She was captain of the East Ascension Lady Spartan soccer team and president of the Beta Club. She is also a member of the Gonzales and Baton Rouge soccer clubs.
