Gonzales school bus involved in minor crash

GONZALES —A school bus carrying nearly two dozen students from G.W. Carver Primary School in Gonzales was involved in an accident Monday afternoon, but no injuries were reported.

Johnnie Balfantz, a spokesman for the Ascension Parish school system, said the bus carrying 21 students was involved in a “very, very minor” accident around 4:10 p.m. on La. 74 north of Gonzales.

The accident occurred when Gwen Schexnayder, a replacement bus driver, turned left from a day care center on to La. 74 to head toward Airline Highway, Balfantz said. As she pulled on to La. 74, he said, the bus “tapped” the front of a car traveling on the highway.

Balfantz said all of the students were safely taken home.
