C.A.R.A. fundraiser to offset vet costs

Volunteers with Companion Animal Rescue of Ascension are holding a multifamily garage sale and selling jambalaya lunches from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday to help raise money for the nonprofit group’s Veterinary Care Fund.

The event will be held at 16469 Oakview Drive, Prairieville.

C.A.R.A. is an all-volunteer, nonprofit formed to save animals at risk in community and shelter settings through a foster and adoption program, a news release from the group says.

Jambalaya plates will be sold for a $5 donation. Baked goods will also be on sale.

In case of inclement weather, a rain-out date will be announced via C.A.R.A.’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/caralagroup.

GOP forum features ex-congressman

Former U.S. Rep. Jeff Landry is set to be the featured speaker at the Ascension GOP Roundtable at 11:30 a.m. May 16 in the plantation room of Sno’s Seafood and Steak Restaurant, 13131 U.S. 61, Gonzales.

Landry recently founded and is president of Restore our Republic PAC, a news release from the Ascension Republican Women, sponsor of the event, said.

Cost for the lunch is $20. The event is open to the public and guests are welcome. Reservations are requested.

Recycling, garage sale slated May 18

The Ascension Parish is hosting its Free + Recycling = Freecycling event from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 18 at the Ascension Parish Library in Gonzales.

The event is a free garage sale-styled event where residents are encouraged to bring unused and unwanted items for swap with others.

Tickets on sale for sisterhood banquet

Tickets are on sale for the Community Sisterhood’s 13th annual banquet at 7 p.m. June 1 at Mayon’s Hall, 37098 Miller St., Prairieville.

Tickets are $25 per person and can be purchased from club members or by emailing communitysisterhood@cox.net.

Registration begins for flag football

Registration is underway for the Gonzales Youth Flag Football League’s six-week summer program for boys and girls.

Registration ends May 25 and games will begin on June 1.

Boys and girls ages 5 to 13 can play for a $40 fee.

Plant health clinic set at La. Nursery

The LSU Agricultural Center and Ascension Master Gardeners’ Free Plant Health Clinic is scheduled for May 18 at Louisiana Nursery, 39245 La. 42, Prairieville.

LSU AgCenter’s Ron Strahan, turf and weed specialist, and Nick Singh will be on hand to answer questions on vegetable and landscape plants and to identify disease, insect and weed samples.

Soil sample kits will be available.
