Idol contest to benefit The Ascension Fund Idol contest to benefit The Ascension Fund Advocate staff report May 03, 2013 Comments Twenty high school and middle school singers will take the stage May 9 for the annual Ascension Idol competition. The singing competition is a fundraiser for The Ascension Fund, said Jennifer deFrances, executive director of the nonprofit organization. The contest starts at 7 p.m. at the Gonzales Civic Center. Students competed in earlier rounds for a chance to compete in the contest, which is based on the popular American Idol television competition. The first-place winner will receive a MacBook Pro, second place wins an iPad and the third-place winner gets an iPad Mini. Fans may vote online for their favorite singer for a $1 fee.
