The tournament, which was held at the Gonzales Municipal Park, was attended by more than 600 people, tournament director Darren Boone said. Boone said the first players took the court at 4:30 p.m. Friday and the 277th and final match was concluded at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Boys and girls were divided into six age-group divisions of play, which were then divided into two subgroups for ranked and unranked players. Players’ ages ranged from 6 to 18. Trophies and medals were awarded to the champion and runner-up of each division. The tournament was made possible through the cooperative effort of the city of Gonzales, the Ascension Tennis Association, the United States Tennis Association, dozens of local business sponsors and the work of many volunteers, he said.
